Overview

Technicians in Quality Control (QC) are responsible for flagging various audio and video issues, as well as content like logos and URLs, in the assets we receive from our clients. QC technicians are also responsible for testing DVDs and Blu-rays that get authored in-house to ensure the discs are fully functional for the consumer.

Responsibilities

Contract

  1. Scope of Work. As the Quality Control Technician, your duties and obligations will include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Ensuring all audio and video elements have been fully QC’d prior to submission for authoring
  • Alert production manager of any issues with deliverables (via email and verbally)
  • Ensure any audio and/or video related concerns are communicated to the production manager via email
  • Ensure any audio and/or video related concerns are added to the database
  • Ensure project deliverables adhere to project flowcharts
  • Ensure audio and video elements are encoded and reviewed in accordance with project timelines
  • Communicate delays and problems to production manager in a timely fashion
  • Encoding of audio and video elements for project development as required
  • Logging and capturing tapes as required

 

Netflix Procedure

Check for:

  • Black at head and tail must be 1 second.
  • Bumpers / Segment Bumper Recaps must be removed
  • Commercial Blacks can be up to 2 seconds. Anything longer must be trimmed.
  • Interlacing / Telecine cannot be present in content.
  • Content cannot be missing (i.e missing credits for the show Gon; this is the only case so far).
  • Extra content (i.e the one feature that had a list of awards at the head of the feature.)
  • Should have original aspect ratio. For example a feature that's 1.78 but was originally 2.35/2.40.
  • 11 minutes minimum (show length)
  • Burned-in Forced narratives not allowed; textless is required

Qualifications

Candidates should possess the following skills:

 

  • keen attention to detail
  • ability to focus on a single task to completion
  • Final Cut Pro
  • familiarity with audio/video codecs, frame rates, aspect ratios, etc.
  • familiarity with closed captions and subtitle files
  • adaptability
  • time management
  • strong ability to communicate with a team
