  • Overview

    The System Engineer is part of infrastructure team responsible for the design, implementation, documentation and day-to-day technical support operations for services provided by Vubiquity.

    The aim of the role is to ensure the highest levels of service and systems uptime for all platforms managed by Vubiquity, achieved through a proactive approach to support and systems maintenance and a positive reactive response to issues as and when they may arise. 

    In addition to in-depth knowledge of the technology being used, system engineers are expected to be analytical, able to troubleshoot properly and capable of providing solutions to technical challenges.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide end-to-end server operations support and enhancements of production and related infrastructures
    • Provide technical support of all server infrastructures for development, staging and live production systems
    • Provide support, both in office hours and on a rotation for out-of-hours support
    • Provide technical assistance on infrastructure projects
    • Support server configuration, installation and maintenance
    • Conduct root cause analysis of identified problems and propose corrective and preventive action plans to resolve them, seeing them through to completion
    • Work with internal teams to understand and capture requirements of internal systems
    • Work closely with internal and external customers to identify required changes and new requirements
    • Ensure a consistent approach to user support, service levels and implementation of best practice standards within the team
    • Maintain a mindset of continuous improvement, in terms of efficiency of support processes, customer satisfaction, and the application of tools for monitoring, managing and optimisation.

    Qualifications

    • University Degree, or equivalent experience ideally within the web and/or media technology environments
    • Proven ability to work with speed and accuracy to deadlines is essential
    • Software installation and configuration: Linux (preferred), databases ( MySQL, Postgres, Mongo), Tomcat or JBoss applications servers. Experience with Redhat/CentOS systems is plus
    • Linux scripting (Bash, Python, Java, Ruby etc).
    • Must have a good understanding of a “services business” in a high tech environment, from a supplier, integrator, or operator’s point of view
    • Experience dealing with Java application servers.

    EXPERIENCE PREFERRED

    • Server installation and configuration. Hardware, Firmware, Storage Arrays
    • Virtualization. VmWare, KVM, Xen.
    • Understanding of TCP/IP and roles of switches, firewalls and load balancers
    • Experience of dealing with data centres
    • Great System Monitoring Behaviors.
    • Development automation workflows for business needs. 
    • Cloud experience is plus (AWS, AZURE, GCloud)
